The Bourne Rivulet

The Bourne Rivulet runs through the villages of Stoke and St Mary Bourne.  It is seasonal chalk stream, a winterbourne, rising during the winter with the water table and falling during the summer.

It normally rises at Upton, where it is known as the River Swift, passes through Hurstbourne Tarrant, through Stoke and St Mary Bourne, on through Hurstbourne Priors and joins the River Test near Tufton.

At times when the Groundwater levels are high there can be problems with Groundwater Infiltration into the waste water infrastructure along the valley.  The Parish Council Flood Emergency Group works closely with Southern Water, the Environment Agency and other outside agencies to manage problems when they arise.  This group meets regularly and all meeting notes are published on this website in the Parish Council Meetings Section.

Householders should always report any issues with the supply of water, or issues with waste water to Southern Water, and any incidents of flooding to the Environment Agency.
