Home About the Village Village Surgery
The Village SurgeryThe Derrydown Clinic is beautifully situated overlooking the lake. The purpose-built Medical Clinic was planned and designed in meticulous detail by Dr John Evans and was one of the first rural dispensing clinics in the country. It was subsequently written up in the British Medical Journal of 1954. Since then it has been extended and the lake created in the early 1970s. The administration of the surgery also reflected Dr Evans' forward thinking approach. His foresight in planning matters made sensible allowance for future modernisation and expansion of medical facilities. Dr Evans was unique in that he combined the roles of GP, School Medical Officer and farmer, and laid claim to the descriptions of engineer, farmer, landscape gardener, designer, motor car enthusiast, photographer, sportsman and lover of fine wines! Today the Clinic Practice Team consists of: Dr Jim Rose, Dr Mary Edelsten and Nurse Anne Hardiman - Healthcare Assistant/Phlebotomist Dawn Noble - Dispenser Lead Chrissie Philpott and Assistant Simon Noble - Receptionist/Administrator Christine Coppen - Receptionist/Finance Administrator Lesley Newton and Practice Manager Carol Ralph. From time to time the village has united to help provide extra medical equipment for the Clinic. St Mary Bourne is fortunate to have such a modern and well staffed surgery.
